Jiangxi University of Science and Technology is a comprehensive university focusing on engineering. The design discipline was founded in 1999, mainly offering product design, environmental design, digital media art and other majors. Product design and visual communication design is a characteristic specialty at the university level, while product design is a provincial brand specialty. In 2005, the product design major began to recruit a master of Engineering in the direction of computer-aided industrial design. In 2016, it obtained the second-level discipline degree of "Ecological design and Technology". It is in the forefront of the province in the training of application-oriented senior design talents in art, and has certain influence in China. The design discipline also has 2 reform projects of the Ministry of Education, 2 provincial quality courses, 1 provincial brand major, 2 provincial key research bases, 1 municipal key research base, 1 provincial college student innovation and entrepreneurship activity base, and a national co-construction laboratory.
The strength of the school's design discipline is in a leading position in the region, and it is a leader in the red region of Jiangxi, Guangdong and Fujian. Relying on the university's advantages in engineering and the development concept of integrating liberal arts, and the interdisciplinary characteristics of design and communication, computer, mechanical engineering, ecological civilization, regional economy, etc., the university has developed five research directions, including product design, industrial design and other advantageous fields that match the development of science and technology colleges. It also covers areas of research in visual communication and environmental arts related to regional economies and creative industries, as well as emerging fields such as digital art. Focus on developing Hakka culture, ecological design and other characteristic areas.
Product design faculty is more reasonable, there are 8 full-time teachers, including 1 professor, 3 associate professors; 2 PhD candidates. In the past 5 years, he has published 15 academic papers, undertaken 5 provincial scientific research projects, and won a total of 13 national and provincial and ministerial awards. 1. Research on product design regionalization theory and application
This research direction focuses on the research and practice of product design knowledge and technology in the field of industrial design. According to the regional application research of product design practice and theory, virtual design of products can improve the comprehensive efficiency of product design and save the cost of enterprises before product intelligent design is formed. This direction is based on the regional economy, serving the surrounding areas, providing decision-making and suggestions for the product design and independent brand construction of industrial enterprises in the region, and providing practical intellectual and technical support for the sustainable development of local economy.
2. Product design and ecological strategy
This direction takes furniture ecological design and intelligent product design as the research field. Based on the concept of sustainable development and intelligent manufacturing technology, based on Nankang furniture, smart home products, electronic products and other industries, the ecological design and manufacturing of Nankang furniture and intelligent design theory and application of household electronic products are studied. Relying on Nankang China Furniture Research Institute, Ganzhou Industrial Design Center, Guangdong Industrial Design City to carry out research on product design and ecological strategy, to provide intellectual and technical support for the high-quality development of industrial design industry in southern Jiangxi.
3. Ecological design and theoretical research
This direction mainly studies the principles and methods of ecological culturology, ecological philosophy, ecological aesthetics and ecological design in the fields of industry and architecture, and explores the application of ecological design and technology in the ecosystem, so as to avoid or reduce the damage to the ecological environment system, save resources and protect the environment. It mainly studies the principles and methods of ecological design in the information age and the Internet of Things + background, researches the ecological design of products, architectural ecological design, information ecological design, urban ecological design and agricultural ecological design in the information age, and researches the application of engineering technology in the process of ecological design

The Experimental Center of the School of Architecture and Design was established in July 2020. Due to the institutional adjustment of the college, the experimental center was formed by the merger of the Digital Media Design Experimental Center established in 2006 and the urban and rural Planning and Architecture Experimental Center established in 2015, which was mainly built by the central financial support for the development of local colleges and universities special funds and school professional construction funds, with a total investment of more than 7 million yuan. The professional experiment (training) room of the center covers an area of about 1000 square meters, and 538 sets of experimental equipment/pieces/sets. At present, it is responsible for the construction and management of all professional laboratories in the college. The rules and regulations of the experimental center are sound, and standardized management is realized for the borrowing of experimental instruments, the procurement and use of consumables, and experimental projects. The experimental center has 1 full-time staff and more than 20 part-time staff, including 2 professors, 10 associate professors, 9 lecturers and engineers, and 1 teaching assistant. There are 6 teachers with doctor's degree and 17 with master's degree.
The experimental center consists of 9 laboratories, including model making room, model room (large equipment), building physics laboratory, material and construction laboratory, experimental center computer room, traditional hand-painted laboratory, paperless animation laboratory, image editing laboratory and photo studio. It undertakes all experimental courses and offers 150 experimental projects. Among them, the comprehensive, design and innovation experiment projects accounted for 95%.
