The School of Urban and Rural Planning of Jiangxi University of Science and Technology began to train master students in applied innovative urban and rural planning in 2004, relying on master programs such as architecture and civil engineering. By 2022, more than 100 master students in this field have been trained, mainly from government agencies, enterprises and institutions and research institutes at all levels in marginal areas of Jiangxi, Guangdong, Fujian and Hunan provinces. This discipline focuses on the international frontier of urban and rural planning and design, urban construction history and human settlement environment technology, closely combines with the important national policies on the protection of urban and rural regional culture and the improvement of human settlement environment, and is based on the local needs of Jiangxi's economic and social development. Research has been strengthened in the areas of urban-rural integration, integrated development of cultural tourism, protection of historical and cultural heritage, protection and development planning of famous historical and cultural cities, towns and villages and traditional villages, and urban physical environment technology, forming a discipline direction with regional characteristics. It has formed three research directions: urban and rural historical heritage protection planning, urban and rural planning technology, urban and rural and regional planning theory and method. Giving full play to the advantages of the discipline, combining theory with practice, he submitted a large number of planning results and research reports to the local government, and gained a good social reputation in the process of serving the planning and construction of southern Gannan region. The research team of "traditional settlement spatial form" and "Territorial spatial planning" has been established to carry out relevant research in the fields of traditional settlements in southern Jiangxi, urban informal, Ganzhou Song City culture, Fushou Ditch drainage system, Red Revolution site, smart city and sponge city construction.
